Research Proposal – The Ethics Behind AI and Robotics


Ai, first coined in 1956 by John McCarthy, is a stepping stone in advancing the understanding and technology of our earth in time. It is the idea that a machine would be able to portray the characteristics of a human being, whilst able to do intelligent things. But the notion of a machine thinking for itself raises many questions about the ethics of such a concept. We must ask ourselves whether we want a thinking robot to diagnose and prescript medicine to a patient. Could it be proven that an AI system can learn unsupervised and become better than a doctor? Can it even be done? Usually in the present day many people tend not to care about such propositions, because its only an article on the ‘internet’.
