As part of the subject ‘Future Cultures’, we were assessed on our understanding and deconstruction of certain science fiction films. We focussed on the futuristic elements and cyborg characteristics within the cinematic experience. Using the hashtag #BCM325 we brought our critic onto twitter and discussed the films with other students during a live tweeting session.

Week 1: Beginning with the film ‘Ghost in the Shell’ (1995), I discuss the problematic concept of creating ‘Cyber-brains’, and how the emergence of the robot could result in many more cases of hacking and how robots could possibly overthrow humans. In this film, the robotic characters embody some human emotion, however there is more chance that the ‘cyber-brain’ will glitch and cause problems such as presented in the film.
