Future but History?

Life of a Uni Student

Watching films that were made in the past but are about the future is an interesting but confusing concept to grasp. Now that I am reviewing my tweets and interactions, I am able to see connections and connotations in regards to the Future Cultures lecture content.

Here are some of my most prominent tweets and replies, including how I reflect on them days after posting.

Relating to Frtiz Lang’s 1927 film, Metropolis. I feel like this strongly related to the concept of “Future History”, as the movie was made in 1927, in black and white and silent. However, it discusses the underworld of mistreated workers in a futuristic and stylised city. I also saw subtle connections to Jordan Peele’s 2019 film, US, distinguishing between the lower class living/working underground, and upper class living above ground which also communicates Future History as the actions made in the past directly…
